Rodebald Hoyer Jazzstar is an extremaly rare German acoustic jazz guitar! Guitar was bought in Germany and brought back to life and adjusted in the best luthier workshop in Warsaw, Poland. Guitar plays and sounds amazing, what you can check in the movie below. Unfortunately, we were unable to get information about previous owners.



Information about renovation works:

The main job was frets replacement. Old frets were removed after heating in order to minimize fingerboard damages. Fingerboard was leveled in controlled stress conditions to reduce deformations caused by the years of the strings tension. The new frets – Sintoms EH (extra hard) – were fastened with gluing and micro cut in a controlled stress conditions. The instrument was given new strings – Daddario EXP Phosphor Bronze 12-53. In addition, luthiers serviced keys, set strings action on the bridge with mapping fingerboard radius, and tuned bridge support points.


Information about the production:

Rodebald (Rod.) Hoyer was born on 05.12.1909 in Schönbach in Egerland. Hoyer was in Egerland not a rare name and there was no relationship to Arnold Hoyer from Tennenlohe in Erlangen. After the war, Hoyer was expelled from Schönbach and settled in Kochel. According Handwerksrolle, he opened his first workshop on 12.15.1948 at Bergfeldweg 270. Later moved to the workshop on Friedzaunweg.

Model Jazz Star is among the best and highest quality guitars from Rodebald Hoyer. These guitars have an extravagant hardware equipment and many ornaments paired with fine woods and highest guitar architecture. These guitars were built between 1955 t0 1966. The presented model was build in 1960’s – the earlier versions had red-white heads.



  • Head – good condition.
  • Keys – 5 of them are original, working well. One key was damaged and it was replaced by previous owner.
  • Nut – very good condition (adjusted by professional luthier)
  • Neck – very good condition, straight
  • Fretboard – flat and clean (adjusted by professional luthier)
  • Frets – new – Sintoms EH (extra hard), size and height chosen especialy for this unit (adjusted by professional luthier)
  • Body – very nice condition, what is very rare for this model. It has some typical signs of wear and its only problem is lacquer scratches on bottom edge.
  • Lacquer – overall condition is very nice although it has some surface scratches which are typical for archtop guitars from 60’s – visible on pictures.
  • Equipment – bridge in new (size and height adjusted by professional luthier) and tailpiece is in very good condition.
  • Addons – new jazz high quality strings – Daddario EXP Phosphor Bronze 12-53
